Scouting Notes
by Mick Slocumb
Hard to figure where the sim stats numbers come from on this page. I find only 657 seasons when I go to Spahn's detail info for this game, and only 6293 wins. This is for all leagues, so something is amiss in trying to assess his value. Anyway, with what I can find: while Spahn was a master of deception in his career, and a true ironman; in this game, he averages less than 10 wins per season with nearly 11 losses per season. Normally I would say he would make a good fourth pitcher who can give a reliable 180-200 innings per season, but he's too expensive for that role. Bottom line, Spahn is only worth drafting if all other options for a left handed pitcher have been taken. He does have more 20 win seasons (23) that 20 loss seasons (16), but he falls apart when it comes to reliability: he has 129 seasons of 15 wins or more, but he has 167 seasons of 15 losses or more. He's too expensive for that relative chance of winning versus losing.
